#35 - Expand The Definition Of What You Do Creatively!

You do not have to stick to one thing.

As you can see, I am trying a different approach for my blog and newsletter: writing them by hand! With illustrations. I struggled as I got bored with things I did. I have made cartoons, comics, illustrations for stories and plays, blogs and newsletters, tutorials, webcomics, books. Then, I realized they were all facets of the same thing! They are all text with drawn illustrations. I decided to make that my domain of exploration from now on: anything where text and illustration are combined in some way. Cartoons and illustrations for plays become different facets of the same diamond. If that makes sense. It is now all just a part of the same thing, and that gives me a lot of rest. I am building a body of work. An eclectic one, but still. There is a certain unity in it. Lots of things where I combine text with illustrations. It suggests other things I can try. I could, for example, make figurative paintings with text. Or: a hand-written newsletter with illustrations! If you find yourself losing interest in what you do, or if you find yourself jumping from topic to topic, try to find a way to redefine what you do. Enlargen the creative space you explore! Feel like a child wandering into a vast uncharted territory of a toy store. Be creative today! PracticeDrawingThis
